My new obsession

It's not the first time I'm jumping head first into a new interest. It usually ends in me spending a bunch of money just to burn out on the idea shortly after. But this time might be different.

For quite a while I've been considering local print shops to make art prints of some of my work, but it never felt quite right. I'm honestly getting digital fatigue; looking at and making art on a screen all the time. Modern printing just feels like an extension of that. It's cold, impersonal and lacks tactility. The fatigue fueled further by generative AI so thoroughly eroding trust on the web.

I need something else.

While researching I started looking into linoleum cuts. The high contrast and gritty nature of it appealed to me instantly! A few weeks later I'm knee deep in inks, linoleum shavings and experimental prints. It's incredibly meditative to carve the details for hours and hours, and it's not even as taxing as I first imagined. Not to mention how satisfying it is to just cut the lino.

Every step in making the prints involves my grubby hands. Each copy comes out unique with its own slight variation in character. The results are entirely mine and I can point at it and say that I did that.

All of it!

I'm starting to get a hang of the whole process and every attempt gets better. It's a lot to learn and get a hang of, but the challenge has been invigorating. I've already made a few designs I'm very happy with and the next step will be to build up a small inventory. I'll aim to open up an e-shop in a few weeks and I'll let you know as soon as I do!
